HitBox Games
Overview
I re-designed the app, logo, and guided the team on best UX practices

01 Context
Gaming Taken to a New Level
The HitBox team wanted to change how people play games on their phones. The idea was simple: create a gaming platform where users could easily swipe through many different games.
As the team's only designer, I created the visual design, built prototypes, defined the design language, and ensured the app followed best UX practices for mobile gaming.

02 Problem
New Ways To Consume Content?
Younger users prefer quick, varied interactions with content due to shorter attention spans and constant access to endless content.
How might we design an app that gives users multiple ways to engage, so they can choose what works best for them?
03 Exploration
So Many Games
The HitBox team already had an app design, but they wanted to make it better. We began by reviewing their current design and logo.
Then, we held meetings to discuss how HitBox could stand out from competitors, identify possible improvements, and agree on the overall direction for the app’s new design.
A small example below on the first logo and the re-design.

Early Concepts
The HitBox team already had some designs in place, so we decided to build on those instead of starting from scratch. First, we defined what our MVP (Minimum Viable Product) would look like.
Next, we created prototypes to explore the ideal user experience and onboarding flow.

05 Review and Refine
A Fresh Look
After several review sessions with the HitBox team, I gathered valuable feedback and improved the designs through many iterations. The final design addressed multiple pain points identified during user interviews.

A new, visually appealing splash screen and login page with clear, prominent buttons (CTAs), making it easier for users to take action quickly
Designed a new home screen experience with a clean, easy-to-use interface. We also explored adding a curated list of games based on user preferences and a new search feature.
These additions weren't in the original project, so they improved HitBox's overall user experience.

Outcomes & Learnings
I had to step away from the project before seeing how users responded to the redesign. Still, I loved working on a gaming app and felt excited about exploring what's possible in mobile gaming.
I'm grateful to the HitBox team for the opportunity to contribute temporarily and gain experience designing my first mobile game UI/UX.
During user testing, we found that most pain points from the original design were resolved in the redesign, giving HitBox a stronger brand identity. There were limitations due to team size, but overall, the new design and features were clearly seen as improvements
